Support Our Soldiers
If you want to show your support for members of the British Armed Forces this is another place for you to do so! Support Our Soldiers - supporting British Troops, our brave heroes, on overseas operations as well as their families at home....
The Support our Soldiers website is really overwhelming and offers a number of options for you to show your support, the following are worthy of note:
Care or welfare packages are no doubt very much appreciated by members of our Armed Forces. They must make a huge boost to morale, particularly when they come from people other than their own families who want to show that they care too. The Care Packages page has full details of the scheme which is run in conjunction with BFPO who endorse the parcels that they send.
Messages of Support
Messages or letters of support to troops are always welcomed and the SOS campaign are happy to forward these on for. If you do not have family or friends in the armed forces you are still welcome to send your letters. If you include your name and address you may even get a reply although that cannot be guaranteed, the important though is that you will show one of our boys or girls that they're being thought about during what must be a time of stress.
Get Well Messages
The SOS team are in very close touch with the Medical Centre in Afghanistan who have requested Get Well cards for the injured and sick there. How precious it must be for one our brave boys and girls to get a get well card or message which the SOS team are pleased to pass it on for you. Again, feel free to include your name and address if you wish to do so. Cards and letters should be left unsealed and sent to the head office, details of which can be found on the Care Packages page.
SOS BLESMA Appeal
During 2008 £15,000 was raised for the BLESMA (The British Limbless Ex-Servicemen's Association). This year too the campaign continues so please do consider making a donation. This can be done via Justgiving using this link, donations made through this link are paid directly to BLESMA. More information about the wonderful work BLESMA do can be found on their website.
If you fancy doing something yourself every fundraising effort that's made is much appreciated. And basically, as long as it's legal, and ethical, then that's okay. If you'd like to organise a fundraising event the SOS team can supply you with banners, merchandise and leaflets to help your efforts. Simply do get in touch to let them know of your plans.
In the past I have used Amazon considerably and am pleased to learn that by placing your order with Amazon via this link, 5% of the order value will be directed back to "Support Our Soldiers". Please do let your friends and colleagues know - every little helps! Amazon for Support Our Soldiers
SOS Stamp Appeal
As simple as it sounds money can be raised by sending in your used postal stamps. Joy, a representative in Barnsley is kindly coordinating a new appeal for used stamps. All you need to do is save all your used postage stamps, not just the British stamps but all of them. Tear or cut closely round the stamps, pop them into a container until you have a decent bundle and then send them to the Head Office marking the envelope SOS Stamp Appeal.
9,000 Thanks Appeal
This is without doubt a generous and most interesting appeal and one I would like to think we can all partake in.
9,000 British Troops are currently serving in Afghanistan, doing a job under very difficult and dangerous circumstances, putting their lives on the line each and every day I'm sure the families of these men and women would take solace in knowing unrelated people care.
This campaign is intended to say thank you, 9,000 times its aim is to send a thank you note to each and every Serviceman or woman to let them know how proud we are of them. People have contacted the SOS team indicating an interest in “what can we do to show our support”. All it will cost is a sheet of paper, a postage stamp and a few minutes of your time. Not a great deal to ask considering the sacrifices they face each day, but for them to know that they are thought about, and appreciated, will make a huge difference. So 9,000 thank you letters – it can be done with your help, simply head to the following page for more information.
Thank you for looking
